The purpose of Bnaksman course is to assess the operator’s ability to guide and select the
appropriate lifting gear

On completion of this course the learner will be able to:
- Know the duties & responsibilities of the Bnaksman,
- Direct the lifting operation;
- Be fully conversant with the duties of all persons involved in lifting operation;
- Know Rigging / Slinging best practices;
- Understand the crane operation procedure
- Understand the tandem lifting procedure.

- Introduction to individual responsibilities under LOLER, PUWER, HASWA and BS 7121-11
- Suitability of lifting equipment and marking of lifting equipment.
- Organization of lifting operations
- Examinations of lifting equipment
- Slings angles/tension
- Risk assessments, slinging and lifting plans
- Introduction to and inspection of
– Sling inspection
– Shackle inspection
– Sling angles
– Effects of angles and tensions
– Rope lays
– Safe use of grade 80 chain slings
– Crane signals
– Wire rope fittings - Signal crane operator
- Estimation of weight and slinging methods
- Personal transfer basket, capsule & billy pugh
- Identify hazards and conditions that can effect lifting operations
- Confirm and establish methods of signals
- Safe movement and use of cargo handling equipment to include:-
– Containers
– Skip
– Cargo nets - Safe use of bulk transfer hoses
- Theoretical Exam
- Practical & Assessment

This course is suited for all personnel involved in the lifting operations and assigned as Banksman.
