Waste Management

By the end of this course the participant will be able to:

• Understand the principal legislation governing waste management
• Apply the methodology for waste identification, segregation, classification and disposal
• Understand the roles and responsibilities of all parties involved in the waste management chain
• Identify opportunities for waste minimization

• Definitions (waste, waste producer, disposal, recycle, etc.)
• Waste classification (by international standards: domestic and industrial, hazardous and non-hazardous)
• Analyses for a proper waste characterization and classification
• Waste Management Strategy: 3R approach, as REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE
• Waste Management Process: preparation of a Waste Management Plan and its main contents.
• Waste Management Process:
  – Waste identification and classification
  – Waste collection in the working areas
  – Waste temporary storage areas in site
  – Waste off-site transportation
  – Waste final destination
• Records and tracking systems
• Practical exercise: find non-conformities and best practices (e.g. in a waste storage area)
• Reporting System (Refer to client reporting system)

This course is suited for personnel directly or indirectly involved in waste management.
