The module enables attendees to develop theoretical and practical competences for a proper waste management, through the knowledge of applicable regulations and good practices standards.

By the end of this course the participant will be able to:
- Understand the principal legislation governing waste management
- Apply the methodology for waste identification, segregation, classification and disposal
- Understand the roles and responsibilities of all parties involved in the waste management chain
- Identify opportunities for waste minimization

- Definitions (waste, waste producer, disposal, recycle, etc.)
- Waste classification (by international standards: domestic and industrial, hazardous and non-hazardous)
- Analyses for a proper waste characterization and classification
- Waste Management Strategy: 3R approach, as REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE
- Waste Management Process: preparation of a Waste Management Plan and its main contents.
- Waste Management Process:
– Waste identification and classification
– Waste collection in the working areas
– Waste temporary storage areas in site
– Waste off-site transportation
– Waste final destination - Records and tracking systems
- Practical exercise: find non-conformities and best practices (e.g. in a waste storage area)
- Reporting System (Refer to client reporting system)

This course is suited for personnel directly or indirectly involved in waste management.
