Course Purposes

This Managing safely course, designed for managers and supervisors, of any organisation or sector, is unlike any other. Course Objectives:

At the completion of the course, participants will be able to:
 
  •   Apply basic management principles and practices to safety and health issues as part of a total management strategy
  •  Set practicable safety and health objectives and plan and implement courses of action to achieve them
  •   Recognize safety and health hazards present in the workplace and the types of control measures needed to manage them
  •   Take account of risks from work activities arising from human factors
  •   Ensure that adequate information, training and supervision is provided for employees in the organization
  •   Investigate incidents involving injury or damage in order to determine the causes and take appropriate remedial action
  •   Communicate effectively on safety and health issues with superiors, the workers they are responsible for and safety and health professionals
  •   Have a basic knowledge of health and safety legislation and understand the main legal responsibilities of employers and managers and act to fulfill them.

Course Recipients

  This course is suited for
  • Supervisors and managers who are required to manage efficiently and effectively in compliance with both their organization’s safety policy and safety and health legislation. 
  • Assessment will be carried out by authorized IOSH tutor. Achievement of the objectives of the course will be assessed in two ways:
  •   A written paper in the form of multiple choice/short question paper on the last day of the course.
  •   A practical risk assessment carried out in the candidate’s workplace.
  • 50% or more must be achieved for both written and practical assessments. Successful completion will entitle the candidate to receive a Managing Safely certificate and qualification issued and accredited by the Institution of Occupational Safety & Health.
