Lifting Planner Training (Comptent Person for Lifting Operation)

Course Purposes

Course Objectives:

 
Successful delegates would be able to:
  •   Know the Law
  •   Know the duties & responsibilities of the Appointed Person, Crane Supervisor, Crane Operator & Slinger / Signaler.
  •  Direct & supervise the lifting operation.
  •   Ensure that these are carried out as per method statement.
  •   Be fully conversant with the duties of all persons involved in lifting operation.
  •   Give clear, unambiguous instructions to all the lifting team members.
  •  Assess danger to the lifting operation from change circumstances on site.
  •   Know the different types of Cranes (Mobile, Tower, EOT, Pedestal…etc.)
  •   Know Safety devices in each type of crane.
  •  Know Log book & maintenance records.
  •   Know Rigging / Slinging best practices.
  •   Calculate the load weight & calculate the load center of gravity.
  •   Understand the crane operation procedure.
  •   Check the correct crane set up procedure.
  •   Ensure the correct crane configuration has been utilized and according to load chart.
  •   Understand the lifting area diagram.
  •   Know the crane range diagram.
  •   Understand the tandem lifting procedure.

  •   Load weight calculations.
  •   Center of gravity.
  •   Lifting accessory types & inspection areas.
  •   Kinds of hitches.
  •   Angles of lifting.
  •   Multi-leg sling method of rating.
  •   Rigging equipment "good & bad practices.
  •   Hand signals.
  •   Video illustration.
 
   Section two:- cranes:
  •   Offshore crane types (PEDESTAL).
  •   Operation manual & log book.
  •   Proximity hazards.
  •   Working with crane.
  •   Crane set up (50 % of worldwide accident).
  •   Bad rigging practices.
  •   Load rating chart.
  •   Lifting areas diagram.
  •   The range diagram.
  •   Rated capacity indicator.
  •   Tandem lifting.
  •   Crane dismantling/assembly.
  •   Video illustration.
  •   Case study.
 
   Section three:- lifting plan:
  •   Risk assessment.
  •   Lift planning (method statements).

Course Recipients

This course is suited for
  •   Supervisors and managers with a responsibility for lifting operations who have sufficient experience of the use of cranes to meet the requirements specified in Safe Use of Cranes.
  • The position of an Appointed Person carries a great deal of responsibility and only suitable personnel should be selected for this role.
